Mikel Oyarzabal scored an 86th minute goal to beat England in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin on Sunday, giving Spain a record fourth European football title.
Spain won all seven of their Euro 2024 matches to be crowned champions, completing their most dominant international tournament performance in history.
"I couldn't be happier," said Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, "to see the fans, to see the players." "For me they are the best in the world and today I confirm that definition."
The first 45 minutes were scoreless, but Nico Williams scored Spain's first goal less than two minutes into the second half. Spain seemed to be the better side throughout the match, but England's Cole Palmer equalized in the 73rd minute.
Spain has previously won the tournament in 1964, 2008 and 2012, making them the only three-time winners along with Germany.
England has finished as runners-up for the second year in a row since losing to Italy in the Euro 2020 final. The country has never won a European Championship and its last major international victory was the 1966 World Cup. Calling Luke Shaw into the starting line-up for the first time this summer was a big move for Gareth Southgate.
Shaw had the small task of looking after Yamine Ramal, the most exciting player in European football, who has upset the competition with his creative threat and incredible striking power.
Some would argue that Kieran Trippier was (ultimately) the better option on the night, and Yamal is more likely to drift into midfield with Trippier's powerful right foot.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford pulled off a stunning comeback against Spain's teenage sensation Ramin Yamal in the 82nd minute. Spain continued to win the ball high up the pitch, and England held firm in the final minutes of normal time.

Gareth Southgate is 90 minutes away from completing his eight-year mission to "earn the respect of the footballing world" if England finally makes it onto the screens with a win over Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday.
