At Adamss Blog, while we decry the situation and the actions or lack of that has brought us, as a nation, to this brink, we still believe in doing our own level best to keep our heads above to water.

This is why we’re sharing a few easy, flexible, and applicable home gardening tips to augment your family’s food supply and cut out expenses as much as possible.

The easiest of Nigerian staples to cultivate in a home garden are:

1-    Tomatoes

2-    Peppers

3-    Cucumbers

4-    Spinach

5-    Lettuce

6-    Bitter leaf

7-    Eggplant

8-    Okra

9-    Baby carrots

10- Onions

Another idea is to plant fruit-bearing trees, the most common of which are orange, mango, and cashew trees.

A home garden doesn’t have to be on a plot of land, in case you’re worried that you have no such space. You can have several pots or tubs of soil where you plant. Some general tips to make your home gardening easier and more yielding are:

1-    Enrich your soil using mulch/compost manure.

2-    Pick a spot that receives a good amount of sunlight; for at least 6-8 hours each day.

3-    Water your garden just enough to keep it moist, cool, and healthy.

4-    Conduct regular weeding in your garden and protect it from other pests as well.

5-    Do a bit of research before planting. We suggest you seek just enough information to begin your domestic gardening journey. Too much information and you might feel overwhelmed.

6-    Be mindful and intentional about your garden as about all other things. It might seem difficult at first, but with practice and persistence, you’re sure to get the hang of it, and reap a satisfying harvest.

Wishing you a big, green thumb!
